For me, opera continues to be the greatest Western art form. Opera is the most collaborative, immediate, ambitious, and expressive way to tell a story. When it all works, audiences can be transformed. Music and storytelling are instinctive - a shared human need—a profound way to connect to others and our humanity. For opera to thrive, I believe we must challenge its definition, eliminate elitism, and invite audiences yo see their stories told from the stage. I want to create operas that resist cynicism and invite more questions rather than answers. I create operas that are entertaining and thoughtful, rather than topical and political.
My best work come from collaboration. I'm always open to working with other artists.
