VISUAL ARTS COLLABORATIONS
Andrea Martìnez
Andrea and I were Artist in Residence with Nocefresca in Sardinia in September 2022. We hit it off while traveling to Milis. I loved Andrea's work and I approached her about updating my website banner and headshots. To my surprise she agreed and she helped me develop a simple visual story. The banner was shot in Milis at the incredible Casa Bagnolo, where we had our artist studio.

Micro Galleries Collaboration
The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth (series) is a Micro Galleries collaboration for Project / Forward 2047. A global projection art festival (December 11-13, 2020) East Amman, Jordan; Sydney, Australia; Pojoksari, Indonesia; Pātan, Nepal; Padua, Italy; Graz, Austria; Bogota, Columbia, Austin, USA; Nairobi, Kenya; Chachapoyas, Peru; St. Peters, Australia; Barcelona, Spain; Lantau, Hong Kong
Our collaboration sprung from conversations surrounding protests earlier this summer as a result to the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. We wanted to explore our country's wealth disparity, particularly the inability of Black Americans to create lasting generational wealth and prosperity due to on-going systemic racism. In this collaboration Dakarai stepped out of his comfort zone by using actual film photography, shot on location in Palm Springs, Special thank you to Jianni Jones for working working with us on this project and thank you to Jerome Joseph Gentes and Michael Bourque for allowing us to use their beautiful home. |
DAKARAI AKIL
Dakarai Akil is Los Angeles based collage artist, designer, painter and an international teaching artist from Cleveland, Ohio. Dakarai works primarily in collage and design, and has self-published two art books that catalog the works I’ve created between the span of 2014-2016 & 2016-2019. "My collages are small windows into my world of black surrealism. Each piece tells it’s own story that is entirely up to the viewer to create. When creating these collages I focus on color, shape and composition to come together and tell a story or give the viewer a unique feeling." |
Sarah Sculley
SARAH SCULLY
Sarah Sculley and I are members of the Micro Galleries International Collective and met in Nepal on residency. I loved her work and we connected almost immediately. I am excited to have had the opportunity to collaborate with her on my new website banner. Sarah is a Brisbane-based, Australian artist who creates colorful, feminine, layered work. Inspired by the female form, typography and color, Sarah mixes these elements to create her work on canvas, walls, paper, surfboards and skate decks. She is inspired by urban environments, personal events, emotional pitfalls and the constant need to find the positive in every situation. She studied a Bachelor of Design Studies majoring in Graphic Design and Visual Culture at the Queensland College of Art and received a scholarship from Griffith University to study abroad at the Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. https://www.sculleydesign.com |
Micro Galleries Virtual Collaboration
Eleanor McColl and Alan Olejniczak

TRANSVERSE | 橫
Our collaboration, Transverse | 橫, is a valentine between our adopted homes of Hong Kong and San Fransisco. Together, Eleanor and Alan reconsidered what it means to create "activist art". Rather than focus on what divides us, we asked: What do we share? What can we learn from each other? How can we grow and sustain? It's easy to think that every new generation has the answers and is forging a new way, but humans have been seeking each other out forever and making connections, learning, growing. These three collaborative works are intended to help sustain the power and significance of these connections…celebrate the differences but also celebrate the focus similarities which bind us.
“When Alan sent his images, I was struck immediately by the amount of similarities in our two cities and this made me
search out similar images to pair with them. Over centuries, countries and cities have been influenced by each other:
European-style buildings and structures in Asian cities and vice versa…I guess it’s something we take for granted now,
this cross-over of styles and influences but that’s also what makes it interesting." - Eleanor McColl
Micro Galleries International Artist Collective, made up of 50 artists from around the world, have each been partnered with each another from a different country, culture, practice and purpose, to create new works. All the work is done virtually! Buying these prints all our work help fund free programs and sustain Micro Galleries.

Eleanor McColl
Eleanor McColl is a multi-disciplinary artist, based in Hong Kong. She studied Fine Art at U.W.E Bristol, in England and came to Hong Kong in 1999 to pursue her career as an artist and art educator. McColl's work is rooted in place with a focus on the urban environment. Her work draws the eye to the often unnoticed details of the city, casting the "shadows on the wall" of the modern human condition: often solitary, hardworking and hardwearing. Through manipulation of focus, her work explores the delicate points of contact in the otherwise ceaseless blur of the everyday anonymous citizen. Drawn to the dramatic palate of dilapidation, refurbishment and renewal, her cityscapes explore the interface between Hong Kong's unique verticality and it's impact on its people.
